Motherwell (Scottish) volunteers help build Classrooms for Malawi

A group from Motherwell were among a team of volunteers who helped build and renovate 16 classrooms for Malawi schoolchildren in just two weeks.

James Kelly, Fr Stephen Reilly and Tony and Barbara Begley travelled with a group of 27 volunteers to the impoverished South-East African country to work for the charity, Classrooms for Malawi.

The non-denominational charity were established in 2012, with the aim of improving the basic teaching environment for Malawi children by building and refurbishing classrooms.

President Dr Joyce Banda assures to carry out SADC goals

The President of Malawi, Joyce Banda,  Saturday in Lilongwe, Malawi, reaffirmed her country’s support to carry out the objectives of SADC, stipulated in the charter on the creation of this institution.

Joyce Banda who was speaking at the opening of the 33th summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), said that the country will engage in promotion of peace, political stability and improve the living standards of citizens.

A president, who is taking up the destinies of the organisation for a one year period, said she will rely on the support of all member States in the continued implementation of the projects.

Madonna ask fans to donate to “Raising Malawi” for her 55th birthday

Happy birthday to Madonna, who turned 55 on Friday. Although she certainly doesn’t need it, the queen of pop now qualifies for a multitude of senior discounts around town.

In lieu of gifts, Madge is encouraging fans to celebrate by donating to Raising Malawi, the organization she founded in 2006 committed to bringing an end to the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi’s 1 million orphans and vulnerable children.

Malawi, Ready for the SADC summit

Government has finalized preparations for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit which will take place in Lilongwe, Malawi, this month, Malawi News Agency (Mana) has established.

In an interview with Mana, Minister of Information and Civic Education Moses Kunkuyu said they were through with all the necessary preparations.

‘’Member states will start arriving in Malawi this weekend. We are ready for the summit,’’ Kunkuyu said.
