Government has finalized preparations for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit which will take place in Lilongwe, Malawi, this month, Malawi News Agency (Mana) has established.

In an interview with Mana, Minister of Information and Civic Education Moses Kunkuyu said they were through with all the necessary preparations.

‘’Member states will start arriving in Malawi this weekend. We are ready for the summit,’’ Kunkuyu said.

He commended all people who were involved in the meetings Government organized for various departments, saying he was happy to see that at every meeting he had attended he felt that members were committed to have a successful SADC Summit.

He called on all Malawians to be patriotic and peaceful during the period of the SADC Summit, saying they expected to have in the country people of various positions in life.

‘’This is a life opportunity for Malawi as hosting such a meeting brings its own advantages in terms of business and tourism. So, it’s my plea that Malawians should demonstrate their citizenship during ‘this crucial time,” he explained.

This is the second time for Malawi to host the SADC Summit. The first time to have such a Summit was in 2001 which was held at COMESA Hall in Blantyre.

Minister Kunkuyu said they expect to have 14 Heads of State to come from abroad to attend the Summit.

This year’s Summit will take place at Bingu International Conference Hall from 17th to 18th August.
