Malawi’s High Commissioner to India, Dr. Perks Ligoya, on 16 October, inaugurated the Malawi business corner in the city of Surat in Gujarat, India.

According to a press release made available to Malawi News Agency (Mana), the city of Surat is one of the most vibrant and fast growing city in India and it was therefore important to establish links with the state.

“This business corner will provide timely and relevant information to Indian business persons interested to do business with Malawi, on trade and investment prospects and opportunities available in Malawi,” states the release.

The release further states that in his remarks during the inauguration, President of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), Mr. Kamlesh Yagnik, congratulated the Malawi High Commissioner for taking the initiative.

He said the business corner will help promote trade and investment between both countries.

The Malawi high commissioner, while in Surat, held discussions with President of SGCCI and agreed that the two will facilitate the signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).

The high commissioner also visited Navsari Agricultural University and the dairy milk cooperative society, Surat Milk Union Limited (SUMUL).

Surat is the second largest state in Gujarat and has a population of about 5 million people. It is also known as a diamond capital of the world and the textile capital of India.
