Anti Corruption Bureau arrests former Roads Authority CEO, ref. Contracts

On 28th April, 2016, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) received an allegation that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Roads Authority Eng. Trevor Hiwa and Eng. Sam Kadangwe recommended Infracon Limited (Eng. Trevor Hiwa’s company) to the Word Bank to be awarded a contract worth $303,823 for the design and supervision of various roads constructions in Central and Southern Regions of Malawi without the approval of Internal Procurement Committee (IPC) and without declaring interest.

Ireland will today dispatch thousands of blankets, tents, mosquito nets, soap, jerry cans and other urgent supplies to assist families affected by the recent severe flooding in Malawi, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, TD, and Minister for Development, Trade Promotion and North South Co-operation, Seán Sherlock, TD, have announced.

Farmers in Malawi need urgent help after heavy flooding

Farmers in southern Malawi urgently need seeds and livestock after intense flooding destroyed their fields and homes, washing away animals and crops and threatening local food security.

More than 170,000 people have had to leave their homes. Some 79 deaths have been confirmed so far, while 153 people are still missing in Nsanje district alone. An estimated 116,000 households have lost their crops and livestock.

K385 Million Maternity Facility Under Construction in Mangochi

A K385 million maternity wing is under construction in Mangochi thanks to the Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA) which has provided financial resources for the state of the art facility, Malawi News Agency (Mana) has established.

The construction of the multi-million maternity clinic has been located at the district’s old hospital premises where dilapidated staff houses have since been demolished.

Speaking in an interview with the state news agency acting Director of Planning and Development for Mangochi District Council, Ernest Kadzokoya said the maternity wing would bring relief to the district hospital considering that the maternity ward was usually congested.

Malawi government has finally confirmed Bhonnox Group of Companies (a subsidiary of paramount group of companies) tricked them on the sale of the presidential jet.

And it has also confirmed that money realized from the controversial presidential jet didn’t reach either Treasury or the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).

But instead the Presidential Jet was sold in the old batter type of trade.

Malawian Airlines Limited will, on Sunday, February 16, receive its second and biggest aircraft from Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800.

According to the Malawian Airlines public relations officer, Maganizo Mazeze, the Ethiopian Airlines, with 49 per cent stakes in the local airline company while Malawi Government has a 51 per cent share, will deliver the plane at a function to be held at the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
