Prebendal School in the UK raises money for Malawi children

PUPILS from the Prebendal School in Chichester have raised money for Malawi children.

The school’s concert band performed at St Richard’s Church, in Slindon, on March 2, in aid of the Nick Webber Trust, which helps street children in Malawi.

More than £1,300 was raised, and a further £500 by selling cakes and glow sticks.

The charity was set up in memory of Nick Webber, a 28-year-old lawyer who died in a car crash while working in Malawi as a volunteer lawyer. St Richard’s was his local church.

Each February, Americans celebrate Black History Month, an opportunity to honor the achievements and celebrate the rich heritage of African Americans.

The2013 Black History theme is “At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: the Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington” to celebrate the anniversary of two important African American turning points – the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and the 1963 March on Washington.

Renewable Resources lights up Malawi school

Malawi schoolchildren are now able to work by electric light thanks to UK solar firm Renewable Resources.

The Scottish company, headquartered in New Lanark, decided that it was the company’s duty as an environmentally-friendly organisation to give back and so partnered with Spirit Aid, a humanitarian relief organisation founded by Scots actor David Hayman.

US Universities to Offer Malawi 100 Scholarships Annually

Malawi will in the next few years partner with ten international universities that will be offering 100 scholarships to Malawian students each year.

Founder of a United States of America charity organisation 100 X Development Foundation Lindy Blanchard told Zodiak Online that the initiative will bring together various universities together from the USA.

A young fundraiser has celebrated turning 13 by visiting Malawi

A young fundraiser has celebrated turning 13 by visiting the African school he has supported by refusing birthday presents since he was six years old.

Charlie Doherty fulfilled a persistent dream by travelling to Malawi to meet children receiving assistance from Mary’s Meals, a charity helping hungry kids which has received £20,000 through his own considerable efforts.

AfDB and Malawian Government launch HEST project

The government of Malawi and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have launched a UA 29.45 million investment project for Higher Education and Technology (HEST) in Ntchisi, Malawi.

“The Bank has provided an African Development Fund (ADF) loan of Unit of Account (UA) 9.05 million and a grant of UA 10 million plus an additional loan of UA 6.5 million for the Nigerian Trust Fund, while the Government of Malawi is to provide UA 2.95 million in counterpart funding,” said AfDB.
