Renewable Resources lights up Malawi school

Malawi schoolchildren are now able to work by electric light thanks to UK solar firm Renewable Resources.

The Scottish company, headquartered in New Lanark, decided that it was the company’s duty as an environmentally-friendly organisation to give back and so partnered with Spirit Aid, a humanitarian relief organisation founded by Scots actor David Hayman.

Eleven solar modules were installed at a local school in Mphata-Mildone, Malawi. The PV panels are connected to batteries in order to power the school as a stand-alone building. The system provides off-grid lighting…

Intra Energy starts coal mine development in Malawi

(MENAFN – ProactiveInvestors – Australia) *Intra Energy (ASX:IEC) has progressed its Eastern African regional expansion strategy by acquiring coal licences including that of an operational mine in Malawi.

The concessions include the operating Nkhachira Coal Mine within Mining Licence ML0143/2005 and three Exclusive Prospecting Licences (EPL), located in the north of Malawi, west of the town of Karonga.

Intra Energy has established a joint venture company Malcoal Mining in which it has 90% interest and CMI has 10% free carried interest.
