Malawi is one of the countries in Africa south of the Sahara where maternal mortality is the highest. The main reasons are the long distances to health facilities, lack of trained health personnel and poor equipment. If these inadequacies were put right, the numbers of women dying would be drastically reduced.

In her opening remarks in Oslo, Honorable Minister of Health Ms. Catherine Gotani Hara said she was thankful for Norway’s support to female politicians in Malawi.
