Malawian government criticizes Madonna, accuses her of holding country to ransom

The Malawi government issued an angry attack on the pop diva Madonna Wednesday, alleging expected to be granted VIP treatment during her controversial tour to this southern African country last week.

A strongly-worded statement issued Wednesday by the president’s office, State House, in the capital, Lilongwe, accused Madonna of using her fame and money to press the government of Malawi to give her VIP treatment.

A Talented Young Lady Swims for Orphans in Malawi

This Saturday 9th February, 17 year old Kaitlin Harthoorn, and Milko van Gool, will be swimming across Lake Malawi to raise money for the Adziwa Orphan Care project in Kauma Village, outside Lilongwe.  Departing from Makinjira before dawn, Kaitlin and Milko, with a support boat at their side, plan to take about 9 hours to swim the 25km distance to Senga Bay, to beat the current record set two and a half years ago. Rarely has such a feat been attempted, and never by someone so young. For most people, running 25km would be a great achievement, so swimming that distance is barely comprehensible.
