Ncwala Traditional Festival of the Ngoni People, Chipata District, Zambia: Saturday 23rd February, 2013.

Ncwala ceremony which is the first traditional ceremony on the traditional ceremony calendar in Zambia is a traditional ritual of thanks giving to God almighty for the green.

Probably one of Zambia?s most colourful and popular festivals celebrated, the ceremony is open to all visitors who sometimes put on Ngoni gear popularly known as Vitewe. The Ngoni People of Zambia, parts of Malawi and Tanzania gather at Mtenguleni, about 50km from Chipata on the Great East Road for this old age tradition.

The governement of Malawi commits to advancing media freedom

The government of Malawi has pledged to further support media freedoms after meeting with an international delegation of press freedom organisations, which is campaigning for the repeal of criminal defamation and insult laws across the African continent.

A program to eradicate violence against suspected witches in Malawi

A Malawian man, with help from the Norwegian government, has initiated a three-year program to eradicate violence against suspected witches in that country.

George Thindwa, executive director of the Association of Secular Humanism in Malawi, has made it his mission to stamp out witch persecutions in his country by launching a public education campaign against belief in magic and witches.
