Construction of a multi-million dollar secondary school in Kasungu with funding from the Royal Jesuits of the Roman Catholic Church is progressing well, to the satisfaction of the church.

Loyola Jesuit Secondary School which will cost the Jesuits US$9 million is expected to enroll 500 students once completed in 2016.

The first phase of its construction is due to finish in 2014 and will be ready for its first intake of form 1 students.

Roman Catholic Church Jesuits Superior General Father Aldofo Nicholas expressed the sentiments when he officially blessed the foundation stone at the school site in the district.

He cited the need to take care of both the body and the spirit as the reasoning behind the construction of the school so that learners benefit not only spiritually but also academically.

“We are not just building schools, we are creating a better environment where our children will grow into living stones and later help in the transformation of Malawi,” Fr. Nicholas said.

The Superior General however encouraged the students who would benefit from the school to work hard to progress in life and become responsible citizens.

In his appreciative remarks, Assistant Parish Priest at St. Joseph Catholic Church where the school is being constructed, Father Peter Bwanali, was all smiles with the coming in of such a prestigious school and the visit of a high profile person under the Royal Jesuits to Malawi.

“We are very delighted and humbled to have the Superior General himself in our country. We are happy he has seen for himself how we are progressing in the construction of this secondary school which will be one of its kind in Kasungu once completed,” Fr. Bwanali said.

Society of Jesus was founded by the Saint Ignatius of Loyola around the 15th century and has been spreading worldwide ever since.

It engages in charitable projects, one of them being the construction of the multi- million dollar Loyola Jesuits secondary school and its sister school, St. Joseph Catholic Primary School in Kasungu.
