arrested for defiling girlPolice in Ntcheu have arrested Sapita Banda, an animal handler in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security based at Bilira Extension Planning Area (EPA) for impregnating his 15-year-old step daughter.

According to Ntcheu Public Relations Officer, Gift Matewere, the victim went to her home village where her aunts suspected her of being pregnant.

He said the girl was then taken to hospital with the aunts where it was established that she was expectant.

Matewere said after quizzing her, the girl mentioned her step father as the one who was responsible for the pregnancy saying he has been defiling her since 2011.

The matter was then reported to police who eventually arrested and charged the suspect with the offence of defilement contrary to Section 139 of the Penal Code.

The mother of the victim got married to Banda after being divorced from her previous marriage, and have since been living together with her four children including the victim.

The victim (name withheld) a form two student at Bilira Community Day Secondary School is currently three months pregnant, according to a pregnancy test conducted at Ntcheu District Hospital.

Banda 45, hails from Phoya village, Traditional Authority Njolomole in the district and will appear in court soon to answer charges leveled against him.
