Hopes of having a Miss Malawi Beauty Pageant this year (2014) are falling short as organizers are having financial and licensing difficulties.

The last organizers of the Miss Malawi Beauty Pageant have disclosed that they are failing to hold a new contest due to Licensing and financial problems they are experiencing.

This was disclosed in an interview by Vitu Kamanga who was behind the last pageant held in 2011 which crowned Susan Mtegha as Miss Malawi.

“The biggest issue has been about licensing, as you know the licensing is not owned by the Ministry, its owned by Event Management Limited, because of that there is a license to be paid for the pageant to take place.” Explained Kamanga.

He further said that the major contribution to the difficulties is the current economical challenges,

“It is difficult to afford a license, and also budget for running the pageant.” He said.

However Kamanga did not disclose the cost of the licensing but said for the pageant alone it amount to k12 million.

He further said that his team drafted a report to the Ministry of Tourism to facilitate a quicker acquisition of the license, but so far they have not received a response.

“It is very unfortunate that we could not have a pageant this year also because the office of Miss World has written us to let us know that Miss Malawi is wanted at the pageant.” Said Kamanga.

It has now been over two years since a new Miss Malawi was crowned.

Currently no one is holding the crown of Miss Malawi as the last queen to be crowned, Susan, gave it up at the end of her reign and is pursuing her studies in Ireland.
