Nominees announced for 2nd Music Malawi Awards – MUMA

The organisers of the annual Music Malawi Awards (MUMA), MediaCorp Limited and Trocadero Consulting in partnership with the Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM), are pleased to unveil the list of nominees for the second edition of the MUMA Awards. This edition has 15 categories covering different genre and artists/groups that have made an impact on the local music scene in the 2014 season.

UK steps up support to victims of Malawi floods

The UK will provide more food, blankets and essential supplies for the thousands of people who have lost their homes due to the floods in Malawi, International Development Secretary Justine Greening announced today.

This will include food for 370,000 people and improved access to water, sanitation for 34,000 people to prevent the spread of disease.

The Department for International Development (DFID)’s £4.1 million funding is also supporting early recovery efforts to enable people to rebuild their livelihoods which have been devastated by the floods. Justine Greening said:

Ireland to dispatch 58 tonnes of emergency supplies in response to severe flooding in Malawi

Ireland will today dispatch thousands of blankets, tents, mosquito nets, soap, jerry cans and other urgent supplies to assist families affected by the recent severe flooding in Malawi, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, TD, and Minister for Development, Trade Promotion and North South Co-operation, Seán Sherlock, TD, have announced.

58 tonnes of Irish stocks will be distributed by Irish Aid partners, Concern Universal, GOAL, Trócaire, Concern Worldwide and the Evangelical Association of Malawi. The supplies will be directed to help displaced families in the worst affected districts in the Southern Region of Malawi.
